ASHA x SolveSquad
Having good health is something we sometimes take for granted, but given the current times, it is the lifeblood of existence. Being able to ensure that everyone has access to healthcare and education is a necessary endeavour, a purpose worth pursuing.
For the Australian South Asian Healthcare Association, or ASHA for short, this has been their focus and primary reason for their initiatives since their inception. During COVID-19, ASHA has been involved in a number of different fundraising and medical measures through the EKTA initiative.
Through this initiative, young medical professionals across multiple locations have been able to provide necessary medical and financial support to those affected directly by the pandemic, as well essential items to those in need overseas.
Local awareness programs, including launching school-based learning such as Bodyworks, a youth health initiatives, including workshops known as “Viral Pandemonium”, In which young students are taught about how to deal with infectious diseases, including COVID-19, run by doctors and students. Additional programs, such as Reimagining Health, has been focusing on engagement in research to address the virus and its impacts through creative responses and solutions.
Krisha Changrani, the National Communications Coordinator for ASHA in Australia, mentioned that “both these programs aim to bring health awareness to the forefront of society, especially in the light of COVID-19”.
