Communal Dinner Reflections

One of the few times that I am able to reflect on an event where I was more of a facilitator than a leader has been our Multicultural Dinners; where we host a community gathering to engage folk from diverse backgrounds in a cross-cultural setting.

We were delighted to do so this past Saturday the 17th in Kallangur, a part of town where we had limited connections, but were invited to host our communal dinner as a way to outreach to folk in the local neighbourhood and beyond.

One of the highlights of the evening was to have our very own Philip Anyang, our administration volunteer, share his perspective on community, and, in his own words, he expressed that “one of the beauties of multiculturalism is providing connections and opportunities that provides benefits beyond the organisation” (we are happy to announce that Philip recently secured paid employment with one of our partners at RCC in an administration role, and is doing fantastically well)!

As a community sponsor, we were also to provide authentic Syrian cuisine during the evening through a local refugee-run restaurant called Aleppian, which was one of the main meals of the dinner, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Keep an eye out for our next Multicultural Dinner in September, we look forward to meeting you!
