Serendipity: A Tale of Superheroes without Capes Fundraiser 2023

Celebrating unsung heroes is not something you do everyday; but for the tireless team

behind Simply Human, their annual fundraiser reached a new level this year and raised

much needed awareness and support for a critical cause.

The evening began with a celebration by Yatra Music to welcome special guests, patrons

and to usher the audience into the night of festivities. With the introduction of the speakers,

the guest of honour, Lisa Ray herself, joined founder Prerna Pahwa on the stage.

Serendipity.

This is how Lisa Ray described the amazing series of events that led to her journey to

discovering herself, and also realising her fight against multiple myeloma. As an introvert,

Lisa explained that she found solace in her creative outlets, such as writing, which eventually

led her to publishing her memoir, Close to the Bone, detailing her journey to overcoming

personal challenges through chemotherapy, and despite her disease diagnosis, becoming a

champion for women in her community and around the world as a cancer survivor.

As a wonderful segue into the rest of the evening, everyday heroes were invited onto stage

in support of the event, as select sponsors, community partners, and special guests were

awarded according to their contribution to the efforts of Simply Human, Superheroes without

Capes.

For the rest of the evening, there were special presentations, including a live artist painting,

auction and entertainment by the house band over dinner festivities which carried on into the

night.

But the fight against cancer continues, and for Prerna and her team, the support of the

community to raise awareness and much-needed support is vital to the survival of everyday

heroes, both now and for the future.
