COVID Changemakers x Solve Squad
Another year has already dawned upon us, and with a new year, there is more reason to hope than ever. With the research into a new vaccine producing significant results, as well as widespread community response to trials, and with breakthrough in research and administration, things are starting to look better than they have in quite some time. Our continued collaboration with organisations and initiatives making a change has also grown in the past twelve months.
One of the newest and most exciting initiatives is COVID Changemakers. Spearheaded by co-founders from Canada, the platform aims to share stories of positivity by highlighting everyday heroes having an impact within their sphere of influence.
These stories of hope, including the use of researchers technology of aerial drones to airdrop PPE kits to remote reservations, to the New Leaf Project, stimulating donations to homeless populations for basic needs and emergency relief, has inspired many to follow their example.
Run by a volunteer team of students, this online awareness campaign is beginning to have significant engagement through the use of social media and student networks to advocate on behalf of communities and cohesive society to bring about further engagement amongst young people in particular, who have been deeply affected by the current times and hope to utilise this platform to encourage and foster development amongst peers.
Co-founder of the COVID Changemaker platform Kristina Yau states that the way the initiative is aiming to “empower our communities during these unprecedented times....it was precious to realise the outstanding work that our neighbours have done for each other and highlighting their stories on our social media platforms to encourage others to do the same to those around them.”
Becoming an everyday hero, though it has its challenges, is an empowering force for all.
